Original art for your cabin, den, hallway, or whatever nook that when you see it a smile comes to your face. This piece combines many techniques I enjoy; wet felting, needle felting, and, hand embroidery.
Layers of texture and colors bring this design together. Backed with brick red wool felt that has a dark brown blanket stitch added. Finally, picture hanging hardware is sewn in place and a piece of jute give the ability to hang in your favorite spot!
How it's made
First layer are color blocks of Merino wool , then a random but thoughtful placement of flax, viscose, silk throwster, art yarns, and silk hankies are wet felted with cool water and olive oil soap. The act of rolling, palming, lots more rolling, and fulling until a felt fabric is achieved.
Blended green wool is needle felts as boughs, then a multitude of hand embroidery to give detail. A stiffener is applied to the back of the piece before adhering to the felt back.
Anchoring the picture are a couple of logs with other imagined vegetation. The scene is reminiscent of hikes in the Olympic forest in Washington where I grew up.
Approximately 18" H x 13" W, created in a smoke free environment
